Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center FAQs

How do I get on post?
- • Everyone entering Fort Belvoir will need government-issued photo identification. Examples include driver’s license, state identification card, military identification or passport. This applies to everyone in the vehicle age 16 and over. It also applies to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcycle riders.
- • Department of Defense post decals and motor vehicle registration are no longer required to enter the post.
- • Drivers with a government-issued Common Access Card, operating a personally-owned vehicle, may enter the post through any open gate.
- • All Visitors (NON-ID Card Holders) and Commercial traffic will be processed through the Tully Gate Visitor Control Center (VCC) Monday thru Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  NOTE: After hours and on weekends/holidays, Visitor (NON-ID Card Holders) and Commercial traffic will be processed through Lieber Gate ACP.
- • Rental cars must enter Fort Belvoir as. Drivers will be required to show a copy of the rental contract. Vehicles may be selected for random vehicle inspection by security guards.
- • Cabs must enter through Tulley Gate. Everyone in the vehicle age 16 and over must show a government issued photo identification. The cab may be inspected by security guards.
- • Pedestrians must show government-issued photo identification.
- • Bicyclists must show government-issued photo identification, and must be wearing a bicycle helmet. Bicycles must be equipped with proper lights/reflectors.
- • For motorcycle riders, the driver policies listed above also apply. However, motorcycle riders must wear a helmet, shoes that are closed and cover the ankles, eye protection if there is no face shield on the helmet, reflective clothing, gloves, long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Motorcycle riders may be asked for their motorcycle safety card to prove attendance of a motorcycle safety course.

My loved one is a patient at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center. How can I contact them?
To reach a loved one who has been admitted to the hospital, please call the Information Desk at 571-231-3224, Select Opt. 1. The Information Desk staff will verify the patient is here and help you contact them. Patient information may only be released if the patient or their next of kin have signed a release of information form.
Where can I park at the hospital?
- • Patient parking is designated on the first two levels of both Meadows and River parking garages on each side of the hospital. In addition to the parking garages, parking spaces are available in front of the hospital.
  - • NOTE: Parking lots adjacent to the Warrior and Intrepid pavilions are reserved for Wounded Warriors and their family members only.
- • Staff Parking is located in the Meadows and River parking garages on all but the first two floors of each garage.
- • Environmentally-friendly parking is available through the hospital’s participation in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. A total of 336 parking spaces have been designated for either carpools or low-emission vehicles. Patients and staff participating in carpools or driving low-emission vehicles are encouraged to use these spaces.
- • Mass transportation options are available for staff and patients. Fairfax Connector operates an express bus from the Springfield/Franconia Metro station to Fort Belvoir. More information is available on the Fairfax Connector website.
Who do I contact if I have a comment, question or concern about my care?

Women's Health
- Do I need a referral to be seen at the Women's Health Clinic?
  Yes, the WHC is specialty clinic, and as such patients need referrals to be seen in the clinic. Referrals for Urogynecology, REI, GYN, and OB are required and can be placed by a patient's primary care provider.
  
  However, patients who want to have their well-woman exam, which is also referred to as an annual checkup, can self-refer, which means they do not need a referral from a provider.
- My primary care manager just put in a referral for me. Can I call right away to book my appointment?
  No. Our reviewers need about 48 hours to review referrals. Patients should wait about two business days (48 hours) before calling to schedule an appointment.
- When do I get my pregnancy profile?
  Patients will receive a certificate (confirmation) of pregnancy during OB registration. However, the actual profile will be entered by the patient's provider during the new OB appointment, which is usually scheduled for between 10-12 weeks of pregnancy.
- I just called and was told that my referral has expired. Why is that?
  Referrals are only valid for 28 days from the day it was entered. It is the patient's responsibility to contact the clinic's call center as soon as possible to book an appointment.
- I just transferred from another facility, and I’m pregnant. Do I need to bring my medical record to my first appointment?
  A first appointment when transferring from another facility will usually be for an OB registration. Patients will need to their medical record.
- I read somewhere that the clinic offers flu shots to its patients. Can my family members and I get vaccinated there during my next visit?
  Though the clinic does offer influenza vaccine, it’s only for our pregnant patients. Family members and all other patients (Urogynecology, Gynecology, etc.) will need to go to the immunization clinic.
- My provider just put in an order for me to have some labs drawn. What are the laboratory hours?
  The laboratory is open on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and is closed on Sundays and federal holidays.
  
  Please note that lab draws for glucose and Rhogam testing end at 3 p.m. In addition, an appointment with the lab is required for the three-hour glucose test. Call at 571-231-4154 to schedule this test.
- I’m planning to deliver at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. This means that my OB care has to be at the Women’s Health Clinic, right?
  Not in every case. Even though we are trying to accommodate our ever-growing population of patients, we also offer OB-GYN services at the following satellite clinics:
  - • Dumfries Health Center
  - • Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling
  - • Joint Base Andrews
  Patients who receive their care at these clinics will give birth at Fort Belvoir.
  
  However, patients from Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling will need to transfer care to ATAMMC at 36 weeks gestation. Patients from Dumfries Health Center and Joint Base Andrews don’t need to transfer care, but should bring their charts or records with them when they come to the hospital to have their baby.
- I’m being seen at one of the satellite clinics. Do I need an OB registration again when transferring my care at 36 weeks?
  Patients who already have a physical paper chart might not need one. In other cases, patients will need a registration appointment. Patients should bring their medical record with them to OB registration.
Exceptional Family Member Program
- Who is an Exceptional Family Member?
  An Exceptional Family Member is a Family Member (child or adult) with physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual disability that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training or counseling.
- Is the Exceptional Family Program Mandatory?
  Enrollment in the Exceptional Family Member Program is MANDATORY, based on public law and Department of Defense mandates. It works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated medical, educational, housing, community support, and personnel services to Service Member’s Families with special needs. This information assists military assignment personnel in matching the family member's special MEDICAL needs against the availability of medical services at the projected duty station. This information assists military assignment personnel in matching the child's special EDUCATION needs against the availability of educational services at the projected duty station
- How do I enroll in the Exceptional Family Member Program?
  The service member contacts the Exceptional Family Member Program MEDICAL point of contact to begin the assessment process and obtain the enrollment forms. If your EFMs is seen for medical care at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital your enrollment will take place at the Belvoir Hospital EFMP office. Summary of the EFMP Process (highlighting additional or different details) follows:
  - 1. The EFMP Medical Summary Form (DD Form 2792) is completed by the sponsor / spouse and PCM
  - 2. The EFMP Educational Summary Form (DD Form 2792-1) is completed by the sponsor / spouse and school or early intervention social worker
  - 3. For EFMs with medical conditions, schedule a primary care appointment with their primary care manager for medical evaluation (i.e. review of medical history and physical exam) and completion of the DD Form 2792. Submit the completed packets (DD Form 2792 and 2792-1) IN PERSON and, if applicable, all supporting CIVILIAN / NETWORK / USFHP medical records associated with applicable diagnoses / conditions to the Belvoir Hospital EFMP office during walk-in hours between 8 a.m. to Noon. One of our office personnel will review the packet with you at that time to ensure it is complete. Submitted documentation must be legible
  - 1. For EFMs with an IFSP, IEP, and/or 504 plan, the school (NOT the PCM) must complete the DD Form 2792-1. Submit the completed packets (DD Form 2792 and 2792-1) IN PERSON, and, if applicable, all supporting CIVILIAN / EDUCATIONAL documents, to the Belvoir Hospital EFMP office during walk-in hours between 8 a.m. to Noon. One of our office personnel will review the packet with you at that time to ensure it is complete
  - 2. Documents will be reviewed in two phases
    - • ADMINISTRATIVE review within ten (10) business days of receipt
    - • MEDICAL review and PERNET coding within ten (10) business days of ADMINISTRATIVE review
  - 3. Sponsor / spouse review of EFMP enrollment, update and/or disenrollment. Process complete
  NOTE: The provider must complete all eleven (11) pages of the DD Form 2792. For any portion of the document not applicable to the EFMs, the provider should mark NO or NOT APPLICABLE and line through the form. Submitted documentation must be legible.
  
  NOTE: The ASTHMA, MENTAL HEALTH, and AUTISM / ADHD addendums must be completed, if applicable, for all applicable conditions within the last five (5) years.
- If my family member is enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program can my family go with me overseas?
  The Exceptional Family Member Program medical staff screens all family members for possible enrollment in this program. If the family member has any type of special medical, emotional or educational need, their packet is sent forward to Overseas Reassignment Exceptional Family Member Program for determination for availability of services. If services are available 'yes', family members may accompany the service member. If services are NOT available 'no', family members may not accompany the service member. Accompanied tours are NOT guaranteed and do not have an impact on operational assignments, to include deployments. Assignment decisions are made by military assignment, Human Resources (HR) personnel, not the EFMP.
- Does enrollment have any impact on the service member's career?
  Enrollment in EFMP does not adversely affect selection for promotion, schools, or assignment. Information concerning enrollment in EFMP or any of the data used in the program is NOT made available to selection boards.
- What are the benefits of enrollment in EFMP?
  Enrollment allows assignment managers at service specific agencies to consider the documented medical and special education needs of Exceptional Family Members in the assignment process. When possible, service members are assigned to an area where the medical and special education needs of the Exceptional Family Member can be met. This is the primary purpose of the EFMP. This will depend on the valid personnel requirement for the service member’s grade, specialty, and eligibility for the tour. All service members are still eligible for worldwide assignments.
- What is the ECHO Program?
  Extended Care Health Option (ECHO) is a financial assistance program that provides for services and supplies beyond what is offered by Tricare. Enrollment in EFMP must be completed to be eligible for ECHO. Examples of things covered by ECHO include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or additional durable medical equipment (DME).
