Welcome to the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), formerly Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, News Room, an extension of the hospital's Public Affairs Office. Using this website, we aim to provide our beneficiaries in the National Capital Region and members of the news media accurate and timely information about hospital programs and initiatives. We are also committed to educating and informing our public about ATAMMC and its healthcare services, technology, staff, training, research, accomplishments, and contributions. The Media Relations and Community Relations sections of Public Affairs are essential to this mission.
Media Relations
External communication is responsible directly to the Public Affairs Officer on all aspects of public information as applicable to civilian media coverage of incidents, accidents, events, and activities. External communication responds to all media queries regarding incidents, accidents, events, and activities of ATAMMC. The staff also serves as the releasing officer for all news releases, to include written and verbal releases to media. External communication includes news releases, news conferences, interviews, website content, social media sources, and other information vehicles intended to educate and inform the public.
During normal duty hours, media representatives can contact the staff at 571-231-3129/1385. For urgent media queries after normal duty hours, contact the main hospital number at 571-231-3224 and ask to speak to the on-call Public Affairs representative. All media must have approval and an escort prior to entering Fort Belvoir or ATAMMC to cover an event. Media interested in covering an event or other media opportunities should contact Media Relations at 571-231-3129.
Community Relations
Community relations is responsible for all aspects of the command’s interaction with the surrounding or nearby communities. The community relations program includes developing understanding and support of the missions and functions at ATAMMC. It also includes designing, fostering, and sustaining partnerships to improve the quality-of-life for service members, their families, and the surrounding community.
