Specialists in our Infectious Disease section offer consultation regarding infectious disease problems, such as viral infections, diarrhea, tuberculosis and HIV.
Patients are seen either as consults or as chronic specialty care patients by scheduled appointment only. The Infectious Diseases (ID) Clinic provides Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) care for HIV positive patients and care for other outpatients with the following: wound and bone infections, infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms, fungal, mycobacterial and parasitic infections, syphilis, Fever of Unknown Origin (FUO), home IV antibiotic therapy, pre-leisure travel advice, and many other infections. HIV and leisure travel patients are the only patients who do not require an ID consultation before being seen. All others require a consultation.
A dedicated inpatient consult team composed of an ID physician performs consultations. Rotating students, residents and a specialty pharmacists sometimes accompany the consultants.
