Welcome to Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center. Our hospital is a premier provider of comprehensive ear, nose, and throat care. Our highly-trained staff uses the latest treatments and technologies to ensure the highest quality of care for patients of all ages. Our goal is to provide our patients accessible and quality evaluation and treatment of head and neck disorders. We also strive to educate medical and surgical residents and consulting providers about optimal diagnosis and management of ear, nose, and throat disorders.

Specialty Services

  • General Otolaryngology: Available are a wide range of surgical services of the head and neck to include but not limited to surgery of the ears, nose and nasal septum, sinuses, tonsils and adenoids, thyroid, vocal cords and larynx, parotid and other salivary glands, tumors or infections of the neck, cancer resection, skin of the face, ears, scalp and neck, reconstruction of traumatic injuries to the nose, facial bones or jaw.
  • Allergy: Unfortunately, we do not offer allergy skin prick testing. Only allergy blood screen can be ordered. Further allergy testing and allergy immunotherapy is conducted by the allergy and immunology department.
  • Pediatric Otolaryngology: Tonsillectomy as well as tonsillotomy (partial intracapsular tonsillectomy), adenoidectomy for sleep apnea. Myringotomy and tympanostomy tubes (ear tubes) and in-clinic ear tube (Tula) in the appropriate child. In clinic ultrasound for evaluation or neck cyst and lymph nodes with removal if indicated. Chemical cauterization of the nasal septum for persistent nosebleeds.
  • Ears: Otoplasty (Ear pinning) to change the shape or position of a prominent ear. Repair of perforated ear drums. Urgent treatment of sudden hearing loss with intratympanic steroids and swift medical management. Non-surgical treatment of Meniere’s disease. Audiology department located adjacently is equipped to perform hearing testing and vestibular (balance) testing for adults.
  • Thyroid Services: Self-contained thyroid center for diagnosis, monitoring and surgical treatment of thyroid nodules and cancer. Thyroid ultrasound and diagnostic fine needle aspiration of thyroid lesions.
  • Thyroid Nodule Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Program: Gives patients a minimally invasive treatment option to reduce the size of thyroid nodules. RFA uses a needle to deliver radio waves to systematically burn and kill unwanted tissue in the thyroid. The procedure lasts 15-40 minutes depending on the size of the lesion and patients return home the same day.
  • Sinus and Breathing: Full array of in clinic procedures in the appropriate patient to include turbinate reduction, Posterior Nasal Neve ablation with radio frequency (Rhinaer, Neuromark), Posterior Nasal Nerve ablation with cryotherapy (Clarifix), Balloon Sinuplasty (balloon dilation of Maxillary, Frontal, Sphenoid sinus), Balloon dilation of Eustachian Tube, Lateral nasal wall Implant with bioabsorbable implant (Latera), Lateral Nasal wall remodeling with radiofrequency (Vivaer), insertion of drug eluting stents (Sinuva).
  • Sleep: Injection and ablation Snoreplasty (stiffening of the soft palate to reduce the volume and severity of snoring). With a qualifying sleep study in the appropriate patient, upper airway stimulation implant system—Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulator (Inspire).
  • Voice Care: Able to visualize the vocal cords with distal chip stroboscope for voice changes, tremors, hoarseness, voice cracking. Work closely with voice focused speech therapist. In office vocal cord treatment to include injection augmentation and Botox injection.
  • Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Reconstruction of traumatic, cancer related or birth-related deformities of the head and neck. Urgent draining and packing of auricular hematoma and subsequent reconstruction of cauliflower ear to improve contour of the external ear. Otoplasty (ear pinning) and ear lobe and keloid repairs/removal. Scar revision and intralesional Kenalog (steroid) injections.
  • Cosmetic Surgery: Limited, space-available services are available for a fee. Services include facial rejuvenation with the following procedures: Botox injection, facial fillers, chemical peels, laser resurfacing face and neck, brow lifts, Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), Rhinoplasty (nose jobs), face and neck lifts.
