Crisis Assessment and Response

In the event of a critical incident in the workplace, the EAP will assess and respond by providing coordinated, comprehensive services such as management consultation, one-on-one intervention, large group education and small group processes and education.

What is a critical incident?

A critical incident is any incident that causes unusually strong emotional reactions that have the potential to interfere with people's ability to function at home or at work.

What is Critical Incident Stress?

Even when the event is over, some people may experience distressing emotional or physical reactions. It is perfectly normal to be affected by terrible events. Most people do have stress reactions for some period of time after a critical incident. Sometimes stress reactions show up in people's behavior right away. Other times, there is a delay of days, weeks or even months before stress reactions appear. Critical Incident Stress may include the experience of sleep disturbance, feeling overwhelmed by grief or anxiety, poor concentration or memory problems, headaches and stomach or chest pain.

What events does the EAP respond to?

Assistance and education are provided following any abnormal event that may impact an employee or a group of employees. Examples include: Sudden Death of a Colleague, Workplace Violence, Public Tragedy, and Terrorism.
